Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

I often think about how my soul feels connected to someone else’s, how our bond is incredibly strong and continues to grow and flourish, how my feelings are unlike anything I have felt for someone before, and yet there is no way I could possibly explain how I am feeling. Love, a four letter word, short in length, limitless in capacity. The other day at church, one of our pastors cited God’s definition of love in the Bible, and it is one that I have seen before. It make me realize… although I love, my love is more imperfect than I realize, and God’s love is more pure than anything. As imperfect human beings, we experience envy, at times we boast, pride does toy with us, and we have all hurt someone, we have looked out for our own good, have been angered, and even though we may forgive someone, we don’t forget. God, however, loves with all of his might. We can only strive to love like he does, and develop our own character to be more like his. Progress, not perfection. As I embrace my relationship, filled with love, this verse helps me to realize what I must always try to do:

Be grateful, not envious;

Let my inner light shine bright through my character, appreciate what I have, but do not brag as a way to feel better about myself;

Be humble and be willing to fail; don’t let pride get in the way of the occurance of great things and spreading love and God’s word;

Honor those around me and show gratitude; love those around me near and far;

Remember that I am a speck in the universe, and God is almighty; he has created all of this to heighten our faith and love and bring us closer to Him; do not get caught up in earthly things, maintain my focus on Him and being an ambassador of His word;

Keep calm in the face of adversity, and know that He is in all things and is always with me, in my heart, He created me and will always surround me;

Know that he sees progression, not perfection, for we can never achieve perfection and must not measure our faith and connectedness with God by the earthly laws; He forgives us for sins when there is true remorse, He leads us to righteousness, He loves to see us move in the right direction, the Heavenly path illuminated with his love.

When I say I love you to my special person, I can’t put into words what I am feeling.

When God says He loves us, it is more than we could ever imagine, more than we could ever feel for someone else. Seeing how much love and adoration I have in my heart for my boyfriend, it is leading me to think about how much more God loves us, more than any human in the universe could ever comprehend, and how incredible that is.

I love His love, and I am grateful for the love that He placed in my heart.

Amen
